Whether it be in school, the mall, or at home, we have all fallen down the stairs... Keeping yourself from falling down the stairs is easily done with some forethought as to the possible dangers. This article will help you sort out the challenge.
Walk slowly, up and down the stairs. It doesn't matter if some people are behind you or you are rushing. If you decide to run down or up stairs, use the banister- it will break your fall if you have one, and it is there for a reason.
Pay attention. This doesn't mean to look at the stairs, just make sure there is nothing up there that could make you fall, i.e. a ball. Again, if you use the banister, you shouldn't really be worried about falling hard.
Don't carry small children, or heavy things you can't balance because if you fall, you are bound to get hurt. If you have to carry something up or down stairs, get someone to help you, or find another way to carry it, like an elevator.
Hold on to the banister, even on escalators, and when you are physically walking up one, be careful and hold on to the side- the stairs are a bit steeper, and you'll be more likely to fall.
If you do take a spill, don't get back up just yet (unless you are Beyonce)! If you are dizzy, or feel sick, then stay there, or sit up. Gather your stuff up slowly. Get everything situated. Use anything you can to help you get up, a friend, that guy offering his hand, the banister. Go on your way Slowly!
Tips
- If you are walking with a friend, sometimes you can latch on to him/her so they will be a break if you fall
- If you are going to a mall, try and wear stair friendly shoes, i.e. no flip flops ( unless you want- they just seem so easy to trip in ) or heels.
Warnings
- To avoid getting small kids hurt, don't try to take a stroller up stairs- use an elevator, or stash the stroller can carry them.
- If any bone on your body hurts extremely bad, then you may have a broken bone.
- Falling up stairs is an easy way to break a wrist, so be careful where you step backwards.
- Falling on stairs can lead to a stiff neck or worse, a broken one, which can be fatal; so please be careful.
