How to Do a Colon Cleanse

Don't underestimate how important a healthy colon is to your body - Colon cancer is second only to lung cancer among cancer deaths in the US. Waste and toxins can build up in your system, and even if you don't feel constipated your colon may need your help! An unhealthy colon is a notoriously difficult problem to diagnose, but the following symptoms have all been associated with toxic build-up and constipation:

Fatigue, Depression, Anxiety, Gas, Acne, Poor Circulation, Back Pain, High Blood Pressure, Low Libido, Obesity, Poor Concentration, Swollen Legs

Change your diet - eating fresh organically grown vegetables is a great start and will stop any more toxins from entering your system. Think about what you eat - fast food is overloaded with additives, chicken has lots of added growth hormone, even fish are full of the various chemicals that are pumped into the oceans. So the first stage in your cleanse is to cut out these unnecessary toxins.

Add Psyllium to your diet . Add one or two tablespoons to a glass of water and take with your meal, once or twice daily. Psyllium is a natural fiber that helps the digestive system to work more quickly and effectively. All that old waste matter that is clogging your colon will be pushed right through.

Add Bentonite to your diet - its widely available in supplement form. It is a type of finely ground clay that is rich in nutrients. It is highly absorbant and will suck the toxins up as it passes through your system.

Do a juice fast at the same time . By cutting your calorific intake and ensuring that only healthy food enters your body, a juice fast will help bring about a successfuly cleanse. A popular juice recipe is apple, celery, carrot and ginger.

Do a colonic . So you've used the Psyllium husks to do a cleanse, but still aren't feeling as good as you'd like? You probably have a lot more fecal matter stuck inside you still. Some people have as much as 15-20lbs! The only real way to get rid of it all is by doing a colonic. A pain-free, relaxing experience, it is nothing to be afraid of and well worth a try!

Boysenberry. The juice of this fruit is capable of functioning as a gentle laxative. It is to be used in the case of mild constipation not chronic ones.

Tips

  • A good juice to drink during your cleanse is carrot, apple, celery and ginger.
  • You may need several colonics. The more times you go, the darker and older the fecal matter that is extracted.

Warnings

  • Physicians counter that the digestive system does a good job of cleaning itself out, as efficiently expelling its contents is part of its primary function, and dismiss the notion of fecal matter or ill-defined 'toxins' building up for any length of time (outside of the bounds of a bout of constipation).
  • Frequent or extensive irrigation of the colon may upset the natural electrolyte balance that ones body is attempting to maintain. This can lead to dehydration, sodium depletion, anemia and possibly even heart failure.
